Modern Designing

We have just completed our second unit of Biomimicry. Over the past couple of weeks we have been studying the adaptations of animals and how we can relate them to human challenges. We also learned the aerodynamics concept. Our field experience consisted of a guest coming in to teach us more specifics about Biomimicry. For this action project we had to create a transportation structure and a home design using the adaptations of an animal. View the slide show to get a better understanding for what he have been learning these past couple of weeks. In conclusion, I thought this was a very fun project. I wish we had a bit more time to create the 3-D model, so it could be exactly what I wanted it to turn out to be. I enjoyed digging deeper in this unit and using art to express our design.

Fruitvale Station

In My elective class, Ollywood, we just finished Unit 2 which focused on "Production". We learned about the main elements of film production, which included lighting, camera angles and acting. By watching films in class, we were able to discuss and gain a better understanding for these elements. For this units field experiences, we had a visitor come in for some advice with filming, and then we went to a theatre to watch a documentary on Englewood. Overall I really enjoyed this unit. I found the AP to be very unique.   “2010s.” Josh Loves Movies, 2013. “Fruitvale Station.” EW.com, EW.com, 2013. “Movie 2013.” Gifer.com, 2013. There is Beauty in Every Beast

In my Elective course, Ollywood, we have been learning about film production and how it works. Our first unit was Pre-production. Throughout this unit we have analyzed different films, such as jaws and Amélie, We created our own storyboards and we have learned how to critique a film the right way. For our Field Experience, we went to Lower Wacker, and took photos for a specific scene. By doing this, we were able to put ourselves in the perspective of a Location Scout. For this Action Project, I watched the 2017 Beauty and the Beast film. Take a look at what I discovered when I looked more into the movie. There is Beauty in Every Beast Beauty and the Beast, an American musical romantic fantasy was remade from Disney’s 1991 animated film. The remarkable cast with Emma Watson playing the lead role as “Belle”, Luke Evans as “Gaston” and Dan Stevens as “The Beast”. The film was directed by Bill Condon with screenplay lead by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos. Beauty and the Beas...

No More Creepy Crawlers

Biomimicry uses the studies of nature to create a better human design. For this unit, our main focus has been plants. We analyzed the timeline of life's eras to get a better idea for how long nature has been on earth. After looking deeper into this, it became clear that humans have been learning from nature for as long as we have been alive. To gain a better prospective outside of the classroom, our class visited a sustainable flooring company, called Interface. Their mission is to commit to running their business in a way that is restorative to the planet and creates a climate fit for life. At first, I was confused as to how a flooring company could relate to plants; but after visiting their space it actually gave me a lot of new insight on how much nature has inspired. We then visited the Lincoln Park Conservatory to draw and observe different plants. In this Action Project, we created a design that addresses a human issue and connected it to the United Nation's Sustainable D...

What Is The Meaning Of Life?

Image
This is the third and final unit of our Humanities course, called Journalism. In this unit, we learned about photography and how a photo can have a significant impact on the world. Our Field Experience included, visiting Roosevelt University and looking at an array of images with meaning. For this Action Project we had to take a photo and correlate it to the meaning of life. I chose my mom because I feel so has a gentle outlook on life. (Kelly and SDC posing, 2018) It is a huge question in today’s society; what is the meaning of life? We’ve all probably asked ourselves this time and time again. Although this can be a difficult question, it isn’t impossible to answer. Every single persons meaning of life can be different, in fact it should be. With as many people living in this world, it is certain there is no one right answer. This is just another example for how we as humans are all wired differently. Most people’s lives are lived based on their values and morals they hav...

Senior Fundraising!

Senior Fundraising!   After learning more about fundraising in Economics, the seniors of GCE Lab School decided to take on the challenge. This term, we worked in groups to create a successful system to fundraise for our senior trip as well as charity. In this presentation you will see the work it took to create our senior store, and how we have been keeping up with it. Before doing this project I never realized all of the work that had to be put into creating a business like this. The seniors are excited to continue this process of running a store and raising money.

How Has Oprah Become Such An Influential Woman?

This is the third unit of Journalism. Over the past couple of weeks we have been looking further into how and why sound can impact the people listening. I chose Oprah Winfrey for my influential speaker because her story is inspiring to many. After living in poverty growing up, Oprah always knew she had a purpose in life. She was going to do whatever she could to create success. Oprah has used her own story to help motivate others to find their calling in life. She is known as one of the richest African Americans in the 20th century. I think her voice has been so influential in society because she keeps things real. She is willing to talk about anything. You can hear the passion in her voice.
