Modern Designing

We have just completed our second unit of Biomimicry. Over the past couple of weeks we have been studying the adaptations of animals and how we can relate them to human challenges. We also learned the aerodynamics concept. Our field experience consisted of a guest coming in to teach us more specifics about Biomimicry. For this action project we had to create a transportation structure and a home design using the adaptations of an animal. View the slide show to get a better understanding for what he have been learning these past couple of weeks. In conclusion, I thought this was a very fun project. I wish we had a bit more time to create the 3-D model, so it could be exactly what I wanted it to turn out to be. I enjoyed digging deeper in this unit and using art to express our design.

No More Creepy Crawlers

Biomimicry uses the studies of nature to create a better human design. For this unit, our main focus has been plants. We analyzed the timeline of life's eras to get a better idea for how long nature has been on earth. After looking deeper into this, it became clear that humans have been learning from nature for as long as we have been alive. At first, I was confused as to how a flooring company could relate to plants; but after visiting their space it actually gave me a lot of new insight on how much nature has inspired. We then visited the Lincoln Park Conservatory to draw and observe different plants. In this Action Project, we created a design that addresses a human issue and connected it to the United Nation's Sustainable D...
